AIで英語教材づくり？ アニメ好きなら試す価値アリ！【まどマギ編】

英語のリーディング教材って、ニュースや歴史みたいな、ちょっとカタいテーマが多いですよね。それはそれで勉強になるんですが、正直「もっと好きなことで楽しく読めたらな〜」なんて思うこと、ありませんか？

最近、中学受験を終えた長女がオンライン英会話に復帰したのですが、普通のリーディング教材をやっても、なんだか楽しくなさそう。

そこで思いついたのが、「AIを使って、長女が大好きな『魔法少女まどか☆マギカ』のオリジナル英語教材を作っちゃえばいいじゃん！」ということ。これが、やってみたら結構いい感じだったんです。

この記事では、AIでアニメ教材を作ってみて感じたメリットや、具体的なやり方を紹介します。

なぜ「アニメ教材」がいい感じなのか？

理由はシンプルで、「好きだから続けやすい」、そして「内容をよく知っているから理解しやすい」からです。

英語学習って、やっぱり継続が大事。でも、興味のないテーマだと、どうしてもモチベーションが続かなかったりしますよね。

その点、大好きなアニメが題材なら、「読みたい！」という気持ちが先に立つので、勉強している感覚があまりなく、自然と続けやすいんです。

AI（ChatGPT）に教材を作ってもらう方法

「でも、どうやって作るの？」と思いますよね。そこで登場するのがAIです。今回はChatGPTを使ってみました。

AIにお願いするときは、こんな感じで「プロンプト」と呼ばれる指示を出します。

アニメ「まどかマギカ」を題材にした英語のリーディング課題を１０作れ。
* CEFR A2レベルの文法語彙
* 250ワード

ポイントは３つ。

  • どの作品か（今回は「まどかマギカ」）
  • どのくらいの英語レベルか（CEFR A2＝英検準２級くらい）
  • どのくらいの長さか（250ワード）

これを伝えるだけで、AIがオリジナルの英語ストーリーをいくつか作ってくれるんです。すごい時代ですよね！

実際にやってみて感じたメリット３つ

AIが作ってくれた「まどマギ英語教材」を読んでみて、「これはいい！」と感じた点は主に３つあります。

  1. 内容がスッと頭に入ってくる これはやっぱり、元のアニメをよく知っているおかげですね。「あ、このセリフはあのシーンのことかな？」とか、「この展開、原作にあったな」とか考えながら読めるので、英語でも話の流れを掴みやすいんです。知らない単語があっても、ストーリーを知っていることでカバーできる部分が大きいと感じました。
  2. 単語の意味を推測しやすい 例えば、キュゥべえが “make a contract” と言っていたら、「これは『契約する』って意味だろうな」とすぐにピンときますよね（笑）。文脈と、自分が持っている作品知識を組み合わせることで、知らない単語の意味も「たぶんこうだろうな」と推測しやすかったです。辞書を引く回数が減るだけでも、読むストレスはかなり軽減されます。
  3. とにかく楽しい！勉強感が薄れる これが一番大きいかもしれません。「勉強しなきゃ」というより、「まどマギの英語ストーリー、面白い！」という感覚で読めるので、気づいたら結構な時間読んでいたりします。楽しみながら英語に触れる時間が増えるのは、すごく良いことですよね。

One day, Madoka has a strange dream. In her dream, she sees a magical girl fighting a monster. The next day, a new student comes to Madoka’s school. Her name is Homura Akemi. Homura looks exactly like the girl from Madoka’s dream!

After school, Madoka and her friend Sayaka go to the mall. There, they hear a voice asking for help. They follow the voice and find a small white creature. The creature’s name is Kyubey. Kyubey tells Madoka and Sayaka that they can become magical girls. To become magical girls, they must make a wish. Kyubey will grant any wish, but in return, the girls must fight evil witches.

Madoka doesn’t know what to do. Should she become a magical girl? What wish should she make? And why does Homura tell her not to trust Kyubey?

Exercise 2: Magical Girls and Their Wishes

Mami Tomoe is a magical girl who goes to Madoka’s school. She is very kind and helps Madoka and Sayaka learn about magical girls. Mami made her wish when she was in a car accident. She was dying, but she wished to live. Now she fights witches to help people.

Sayaka’s friend Kyosuke is in the hospital. He was a great violin player, but his hand was hurt in an accident. He cannot play the violin anymore. Sayaka wants to use her wish to help Kyosuke play the violin again.

Homura warns Madoka and Sayaka not to make wishes. She says the life of a magical girl is very hard. But Homura doesn’t explain why. What is Homura hiding?

Exercise 3: Witches and Labyrinths

In Madoka Magica, witches are dangerous monsters. They hide in special places called labyrinths. Labyrinths look very strange and scary. They are full of weird symbols and strange creatures called familiars.

Witches make people sad and hopeless. Sometimes, witches make people hurt themselves or others. This is why magical girls must fight and defeat witches.

When a witch is defeated, it drops a Grief Seed. Magical girls use Grief Seeds to clean their Soul Gems. Soul Gems become dark when magical girls use their powers. If a Soul Gem becomes too dark, the magical girl cannot use her powers well.

Mami shows Madoka and Sayaka how to find and fight witches. She is very strong and experienced. Mami’s special attack is called “Tiro Finale.” She uses many ribbons and a big gun in her fights.

Madoka and Sayaka are amazed by Mami’s powers. They think being a magical girl looks cool and exciting. But they don’t know the whole truth yet.

At first, Sayaka is happy. Kyosuke’s hand gets better quickly. Soon, he can play the violin again! Doctors think it’s a miracle. Sayaka watches Kyosuke play the violin and feels good about her choice.

But being a magical girl is not easy. Sayaka must skip school to fight witches. She gets hurt in battles. And when Kyosuke goes back to school, a girl named Hitomi tells Sayaka that she likes Kyosuke too. Hitomi says she will tell Kyosuke about her feelings the next day.

Sayaka begins to regret her wish. Was it worth it to help Kyosuke if he doesn’t love her back?

During their fight, something terrible happens. Kyoko hits Sayaka’s Soul Gem, and it falls far away. Suddenly, Sayaka’s body stops moving. It looks like she is dead! Madoka picks up the Soul Gem and runs back to Sayaka. When she puts the Soul Gem near Sayaka’s body, Sayaka wakes up again.

Kyubey explains the truth: a Soul Gem contains a magical girl’s soul. When a girl makes a contract, Kyubey takes her soul out of her body and puts it in the Soul Gem. This makes the girl stronger and able to fight witches. But it also means that a magical girl’s real body is just an empty shell controlled by the Soul Gem.

Sayaka is shocked and angry. She didn’t know this would happen when she made her wish. She feels like she’s not human anymore. Kyubey doesn’t understand why the girls are upset. He says he never lied to them; they just didn’t ask the right questions.

Homura and Madoka became friends. But later, Madoka died fighting a very powerful witch called Walpurgisnacht. Homura was so sad that she made a contract with Kyubey. Her wish was to go back in time and protect Madoka.

But every time Homura goes back, things get worse. In some timelines, Madoka becomes a magical girl and dies. In others, she becomes the most powerful witch ever. Homura has tried to save Madoka many times, but she always fails.

This is why Kyubey collects used Grief Seeds. The energy created when magical girls become witches is very valuable to Kyubey’s species. They use this energy to fight against the heat death of the universe.

Madoka is horrified. She realizes that magical girls are trapped in a cruel system. First, they suffer fighting witches. Then, they become witches themselves and cause more suffering. It’s an endless cycle of hope and despair.

Sayaka’s Soul Gem is getting darker every day. She feels hopeless because Kyosuke is now dating Hitomi. She also feels that she is no longer human because her soul is in a gem. She stops cleaning her Soul Gem with Grief Seeds. Madoka and Kyoko try to help her, but it might be too late.

After this, Sayaka disappears. Madoka and Kyoko search for her everywhere. Finally, they feel strong witch magic nearby. They enter the witch’s labyrinth and find a mermaid witch named Oktavia von Seckendorff. The witch plays beautiful but sad violin music.

Kyoko realizes the terrible truth: this witch is Sayaka. Sayaka’s Soul Gem turned completely black, and she became a witch. Kyoko fights the witch but cannot defeat her without hurting Sayaka. In the end, Kyoko decides to use all her magic to destroy both herself and the witch. She hopes that Sayaka’s soul can find peace this way.

Madoka cries as she loses two more friends. She wonders if there is any way to break this cruel system.

If she becomes a magical girl, she will be the most powerful one ever. This is because every time Homura goes back in time to save her, Madoka’s potential grows stronger.

Her job is to find all magical girls throughout history just before they become witches. She takes their Soul Gems away so they can die peacefully instead of becoming monsters.

In this new world, magical girls still fight against evil, but they don’t become witches. Instead, they fight creatures called “Wraiths.” When magical girls use too much magic or lose hope, they disappear and go with Madoka to a peaceful place.

Homura is the only one who remembers Madoka and the old world. She keeps Madoka’s red ribbon as a memento. She continues to fight as a magical girl, knowing that someday, she will see Madoka again.
